Hocking County

The County was formed by an Act of the Ohio General Assembly in 1818.The land used to form the new county was contributed by nearby Ross, Fairfield and Athens counties. The County's name is from the Indian word Hocking which means a bottle. The Hocking River, which was once claimed by the Wyandot Indians, runs through the County. Officials designated the village of Logan as the county seat. ~ Information obtained from the Chamber of Commerce
